With All Hallows Eve but a few weeks away, it would be foolish not to stage a grandevent to welcome the changing of the seasons. Since its inception in July 2010, Dorian’s Parlor has gained notoriety as asensuous and decadent Steampunk event – and what better way to celebrate one of the most sensuous and decadent ofholidays? Located on the historic Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia, this monthly gathering offers an eclectic marriageof music, live performances, craftsmanship and culture that appeals to all varieties of neo-vintage enthusiasts. A monthly stapleof the Steampunk scene, Dorian’s Parlor continues to attract a steady following, and has been featured in Philadelphia Weekly,The Times Leader, Philly.com and Geekadelphia.
“Steampunk” describes a highly imaginative genre of science fiction, set against the background of an anachronisticVictorian society. Its increasing presence in fashion, television, music, and popular culture is a testament to its extensive appealand versatility. Dorian’s Parlor provides a place for those interested in the genre to converse, collaborate, and share theirexperiences – as well as offering an audience for local bands, artists, and designers.
Our October 22nd event features a fashion show from none other than The Baroness – a self-described “LatexEnthusiast” whose elegant, provocative pieces appeared in the “Born This Way” music video. Alex Reed, of post-punk/electronica band Thou Shalt Not, performers a spectacular solo set for Dorian’s guests. And like an exotic bazaar, Dorian’s Parlor will hostvendors and craftspeople eager to vend their wares to the revelrous crowd. The host for the evening is renowned Steampunkauthor and icon G.D. Falksen. Falksen recently published the fast-paced and adroitly penned Blood in the Skies, the first of manyscintillating novels in the Hellfire Chronicles series. In addition to a spectacular array of live entertainment, the appropriately-named DJ Ghoul will spin song after song to keep you dancing long into the night. Lighting, sound, stage design, and productionmanagement generously provided by CircuitSix, LLC – dear friend and ongoing sponsors of Dorian’s Parlor.
For our dear friends and valued patrons, we will be providing a bevy of door prizes, including gifts from Wildside Press,Tor Books, Retroscope Fashions, Steampunk Tales, and many.
