Featuring Joe Mason, Joseph C.R. Vourteque and Fay Kabian
of The Lords & Ladies
at The Hungry Brain 11/8
Steampunk has made its way into lots of fiction, art, movies, music, fashion and more. But what exactly is it and where does it come from? This movement that reenvisions history with anachronistic Victorian technology inspires modification of objects to reflect an aesthetic of brass goggles, airships, gears, steam-powered devices and more. Learn about steampunk or further your pre-existing preconceptions about it at this event that promises to make the past the future.
Joe Mason seeks not to convert the world to a neo-Victorian amalgamation of brass and gears, but to expound on the aesthetic of the contemporary steampunk movement. He operates the theremin, drum machines and other gadgets in Chicago’s old timey mad scientist band The White City Rippers, which you can listen to at myspace.com/bodicerippers.
Joseph C.R. Vourteque is a self-appointed Lord Baron and deranged mad man, producer and remix artist. He is also an entrepreneur and club promoter, one of the minds behind a variety of steampunk-inspired spectacles, promoting them on steampunkchicago.com.
Fay Kabian is an un-lady, un-mitigated promoter, cinema arts & design expert, un-apologetic gypsy fiend as well as a taxidermy collector. She recruits entertainment and writers for steampunkchicago.com. She is also an expert in the subgenre of dieselpunk.
The steampunk apartment of Vourteque and Kabian has been featured in Time Out Chicago.
Mason, Vourteque and Kabian spin as The Lords & Ladies: Vaudevillian Disc Jockey Extra-Ordinaries. They are, simply put, the people behind the sound that comes from the "Fusion-O-Scope" that makes the people at any variety of events throughout Chicago, and beyond, move their - if you will - derrieres. http://www.soundcloud.com/steampunk-chicago-djs
