Here in the Dallas, Texas area we're having the first white Christmas in 87 years. Amazing.

Pardon the ignorance, but what is a "white christmas"? Do you mean it has snow for the first time in 87 years?

That's ok. Yup, it's been about that long since we've had snow on Christmas Day.

Texas is close to being a desert, so snow is a wonder. I wouldn't be surprised if they closed school down there after the first centimeter hit the ground.

They were already out for Winter break but you're right that they would have. Now, that being said if one goes to the Panhandle, which is in the far northern part of the state large snowfalls are common.
