A Dieselpunk Soundtrack
Hi Everybody,
at the moment I'm writing an Dieselpunknovel and I get my inspiration from music and films. From my point of view the soundtracks of the movies "Once Upon A Time In America" and "Blade Runner" are very atmospheric for my novel. But for some scenes, e.g. the protagonist meets a mysterious guy who works for a big industrial person, I can't find any fitting songs. Maybe you know some songs, that can give me the necessary inspiration.

Pre-war industrial music might be hard to come by, and modern day Industrial is less machines and more angry-rock music.
I wish I could suggest a soundtrack other than the ambient industrial tracks from the Silent Hill games (available around the net), but I don't know of many other sources.

Feel free to look at my playlist and see if anything strikes your fancy... though half the stuff on it is modern industrial/techno, there's a growing collection of 20s/30s originals and cover tunes (think Lee Press-On, CPD, etc).

For synth-less industrial that actually sounds like industry, I recommend Einsturzende Neubauten. If you wanted to go noirish, I highly suggest Pig (Raymond Watts), formerly of KMFDM.

Try period music! Benny Goodman, Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane...you get the picture.

There's an artist called Atrium Carceri whose whole career so far has revolved around sounds/themes from prisons, insane asylums and abandoned places. His tracks are rather Silent Hill-ish, and usually more soundscape than music per se, but I find it to be atmospheric and inspiring for the kind of stuff I do.

Good recommendation in any case. Pig (and his own main influence, Jim Thirlwell / Foetus) have done very interesting things that combine big-band, swing and even samba with techno-industrial-metal. Very creative, and I suppose it fits the post-modern bill of dieselpunk. It can get pretty goofy but I like it that way.
