What is noirpunk? That sounds like I might like that even more than dieselpunk!
I was wondering the same thing.
"1816, the year without a summer" by Rasputina is a great song to hear live. It tells an excellent story with good accompaniment, but the version on Oh Perilous World just sounds like she's reading the newspaper.
It's a term I coined last year (stroke my ego! STROKE IT!) to describe something I was seeing emerge, and it's just caught on. We started getting these gorgeous people showing up to the steampunk clubs with a film noir/punk fusion thing going on, like Humphrey Bogart with spikes, or Marlene Dietrich with tattoos. They weren't really Steampunk, definitely not Kustom Kulture, they're something else again. I don't know if it's a Brisbane-only thing, but I love it, it's so swanky and sexy.

Musically what I've identified as noirpunk is a thread of dirty blues, horny swing, and tense jazz with a punk/rock sensibility, a great example would be Mojo Juju and the Snake Oil Merchants. I guess the musical side presents itself as pretty self-evident from the image, which steampunk doesn't really do as readily.
