Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Well, I'm not that fond of the PC changes (more Nazis, less Hydra in this era)  and the tweaks to the story line, but I do want to see this movie.  I've been a Cap fan for quite a while (my first favorites are Sgt. Fury and company in this venue).  The costume is about as good as I can see it getting.  I like the idea of chain mail but that stuff isn't usually so nicely skin-tight ;)  I hope they make the shield the vibranium/adamantium alloy it's supposed to be.

So, will dieselpunk get a boost from this?  I can remember that in the SCA, ever flippin' historical movie had an influx of new "personas" as everyone thought "coooll"

I think the reason he´s fighting Hydra rather than Nazis is because Marvel can´t copyright Nazi action figures.

There´s a new trailer out, which shows off a bit more of the hardware.

Captain America trailer

It looks like its going to be a good movie. At first I was getting the Wolverine Origins vibe from it, but with the advent of the newest trailer, I have higher hopes now.

It looks to be a good film, following in the spirit of Iron Man (I liked it much more than any other Marvel films). I'm predicting that dieselpunk won't get much of an influx, though, as most of the people I interact with don't even know that steampunk exists. I don't know many Cap fans, either, most superhero laymen seem to be familiar with only DC characters.

For a moment of art geekdom (from http://www.buzzfeed.com/burnred/retro-poster-of-captain-america-281t):

I too am looking forward to Captain America. It is going to be the best comic book movie of the year IMO.

Being a fan of the Rocketeer movie I have confidence in the director.

Personally, It has me checking out 30-40s era related movies and items recently, but then again I have always been a fan of this era anyways.

I hope with the Captain America movie we get a special edition of Rocketeer with commentary and some special features.

Looking at that poster makes me think they might well know what they´re doing with this movie.

The same director as the Rocketeer is directing it? Fantastic!

I believe there's a quote in the movie trailer about "[I will}....personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of hell."

Caught the Friday Midnight showing. The best comic based movie this year.

Go see this movie. Go see it NOW!  :)

Even if you don't think you like superheroes, that just doesn't matter.  Heck, just the scene where Howard Stark is throwing switches and turning dials and lots of levers is worth the price of admission.  Plus you get to see the world exposition and lots of Nazi superscience.

oh and the quote is "They (the new supersoldiers) will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of hell."

I second the motion! It's an absolutely phenomenal film, and very true to the period. Words cannot describe how much of a delectable treat Cap is.
It was good all around. I caught it friday evening, and I was very impressed. Visually stunning, decent dialogue, glorious shield-bashing.

I saw Captain America on Wednesday night, and it's everything I wanted it to be.

Dieselpunks will be talking about it in the same vein as Sky Captain when they need a good example of the genre.

Plus, the Captain America cosplay can't be beat so far.

I just saw it today. It was great. However, I felt there could have been more and it moved into two movies.
