Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

This is my first discussion on this site and I'm sure this has been asked before. I'm about to compile a playlist inspired by what I imagine a greasy deiselpunk wrench-turner would listen to barreling down a dark deserted highway in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Got any band suggestions?

I was probably gonna start it off with a couple of tracks by the Melvins.

Abba.

I don't think I would be able to mix The Melvins with dieselpunk music. The roots are too metal to blend with the typical swing sound. What it sounds like you're shooting for is more in the White Zombie/Ministry vein of hellbilly.  Something that says, "Fuck yeah this is a V8, but touch her again and I'll kick your teeth in."

In this instance he is using the word dieselpunk to mean post-apocalyptic rather than 1930s retrofuturism. However if you spend your day seeing violence, death and destruction, you might well want to listen to some cheery, happy music like Abba.

SOS is now on there. Thanks!

Abba might work. Kind of like a mix between Mad Max 2 and Pricilla Queen of the Desert.

*clears throat* Maybe I should have specified the tracks.

If you want more hard core, noir inspired type stuff I advise checking out Punk Swing ala Wolfgang Parker.  Room 19 or Ash Heaps & Millionaires might fit the bill.

And I must say, Abba makes me want to break shit.  Probably not the reaction to "Dancing Queen" they expected, but hey...

Gotta go with the Cap'n on that one! LOL

Some good picks too!

Tom Waits maybe.

Red Right Hand by Nick Cave?
