Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Hi everyone, I'm Lena But you can call me Radioactive Granny and I love Diesel Punk!  I also collect Asian ball Jointed dolls and like making movies.  Some of my favorite movies are All Quiet on the Western Front (not really diesel punk setting, but pretty close) Metropolis (haven't managed to see it all yet) and 9 (which I admit wasn't actually that good, but I still love it.)  My favorite fantasy book is The Supernaturalist (which is more like Cyber Punk, but cleaned up for young adults, but not that much.)  I also like sewing and me ad one of my freinds plan to go as 2 and 5 from 9 to a local Anime convention, where we will be shunned for being characters from Western animation! I'm watching "Sky Captain" while I write this all down. . .how the heck does Frankie fly a plane with only one eye anyway?

Hi and welcome!
"All Quiet..." indeed is a brilliant movie (btw - the book is even better imo). When you like to read a story where The Great War (WW1) is combined with dieselpunk and weird fantasy elementes make sure to check out "Leviathan":
http://www.amazon.com/Leviathan-Scott-Westerfeld/dp/1416971734/ref=...
It's really great and filled with brilliant illustrations!
And being a fan of animes you can surely find some movies here in the "Movies" section (e.g. "First Squad", a russian dieselpunk anime).
Anyway... ;-) Enjoy the forum!
Hello:) I'm toying with the idea of a diesel punk redux only with diesel punk elements of AQotWF with Paul using a video blog type thing instead of a journal... I know pure blasphemy right? I've been meaning to read that for awhile. I'v never seen any diesel punk animes I'll put them on my list for sure!
Another Philly gal! Welcome!

If you're looking for anime, check out the VIDEOS page. First Squad and The Animatrix - A Detective Story are two that jump right out as great examples of dieselpunk.

We should plan some sort of dieselpunk meet up in the city when things get a little warmer.
I think Frankie doesn't have any problems with depth perseption. Lela from Futurama is the same way! lol

Oh, hello and welcome! =P Glad to see more people finding the Dieselpunk subgenre!
Good point but Lela was born with one eye so it is assumed that she has great depth perception because she only had one eye to begin with, just food for thought. . . I really like diesel punk better I plan to mod my laptop to look like on lold singer typewriter. Sadly it is school issued so I'll have to wait till graduation to do that. Anyone now of any tutorials for modding laptops and not desktops?
Laptops are a little trickier, because they're so compact and unibuilt. Your best bet for modding it would be to focus on the case and not the keys.
Welcome Lena, uh, I mean Radioactive Granny. :)
That makes sense I guesswith the keys modded I wouldn't be able to close it all the way anyway.
If you're on a budget, consider using some custom stickers to pimp it out. That way, you can "mod" it now while it's still school property.
They woulnd't even let us to that to them, since they are school property. . .also did you see that thing in the news a few weeks back about that one school spying on kids in their homes via the webcams , that is my school! The future is here lol
Think of it as a free laptop.

I could start with some "back in my day" stories, but I don't want to put you to sleep.
Yeah, back when I was a kid there was no way they use the stone tablets to spy on us. :)
