Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

She was more than just a pretty face, even if it is an extraordinarily pretty face. She was also quite brilliant, and helped with the war effort.

During parties her first husband held, she learned about military technologies and may well have met both Hitler and Mussolini. She later helped invent a method for using shifting frequencies on radio-controlled torpedoes to prevent jamming of the signals. This is also used today in things like wi-fi communication. She also did other inventions, but I can´t find much details on them. Still, she seems like a remarkable woman and would be great to use in a dieselpunk story.

I took a liberty of inserting a photograph of Hedy Lamarr from Dr. Macro's excellent website.
Beauty and brains. What a combination. Thanks for posting this Atterton!

"That's Headley!"

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Seriosuly, though, she is without a doubt my personal favorite Golden Age beauty. Not just gorgeous and classy, but she invented Frequency Hopping! It's not just used in WiFi, it's used in every military communications system out there to prevent jamming. Truly a pin-up for us Engineering types!

Yes it´s a shame the combination of beauty and brains isn´t found more often. I know a girl who is just gorgeous, as well as halfway through her PhD in finance at the age of 24.
