Nazi expedition to Tibet uncovered Buddhist statue carved from meteorite

This just sounds like the perfect thing to use in a dieselpunk story. Perhaps weaving it in with the story of the Dropa.

Yeah, definitely a story there.

Possibly involving an ancient civilization such as Atlantis, which would be the foundation for all modern languages and society, the Old Ones worshipping cult that is the last remnant of Atlantean society and seeks the idol, the Nazis who want it for supposed supernatural power, and the Allied governments who want it for the same reason.

I'm curious to know who debunked this and how they did it. Was the statue carved from something else, not a meteorite? Or was there never a statue in the first place?
