Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

I've had this awesome LIFE Magazine cover for some time as an inspiration, to remind me in my hobby that bicycles can be odd, and still awesome:

I mention this, because I finally built a bike that directly copies it. First, I bought this headboard from a thrift store for about $5:

Question, is it still called a headboard if it's not made out of wood?

Anyhoo, here is the bike as it stands now:

Now, the problem is that it's very wobbly. I'm too scared to test ride it. I'm thinking that I'll chop the wheels off, and place them on either side of the frame instead of underneath, making it low, and very long. I think it will still be very noticeable and unique, even if it's not six feet in the air.

It does look as though it has a high centre of gravity. Still fab, though.

It should certainly get ya few stares commuting to work!  LOL

FUN Stuff!

No way would I ride it. If you do try it, make your family drops us a note so we know where to send the funeral flowers. ;)

I thought I would drop it down, to make it rideable. It still gets people freaking out, it's just safer. :)

Crazy! I thought that V1 was cool enough but this one actually has some sweet lines in it!

Now need to have someone video tape you riding it and post it. I can't imagine how you're able to with the layout of the seat, peddles and handlebars.

Very cool and well done, sir!

Updated with paint, and newer tires, etc.

I love riding this thing.

Holy Crud that thing is beautiful. When you said about chopping it down I was thinking you were going to add 2 more tires; apparently I was wrong. But this is amazing. You could hang all types of things from it. During the holidays string lights.....sorry my brain was running away again. Very very nice.

Excellent work. I actually think your design is much more creative than the original (life mag) example. I especially like the handlebars and the front forks.

version 2 - that is a seriously nice cycle.... i like it a lot!
