Some of you may have heard about the recent shake up over at NING. If you didn't know, NING is the platform that the Dieselpunks
website is hosted on, and they've recently downsized and changed their pricing plans.
This means, no more free NING websites. How does this affect Dieselpunks?
The recent change at NING does not affect Dieselpunks
Right now, Dieselpunks
costs me about $85 - $100 a month, and the majority of that is hosting charges through NING. As NING solidifies their new pricing structure, our hosting costs may
actually come down, but it won't affect how our website functions.Let's talk dollars and cents.
As you can see, we don't have any advertising or commercial revenue for
the website beyond the DONATIONS area and the Dieselpunks Store
. I do this on purpose. Dieselpunks
only supports those who support the dieselpunk/steampunk movements, and I wouldn't have it any other way.I work a normal 9-to-5 job, and I pay for Dieselpunks out of pocket because I love the site and want to see the movement grow.
At this point, the donation button is dusty from disuse, and the store generates about $20 for us every 6 months. Do I care? No.
That's not why I keep the site running. I keep Dieselpunks
running because I love seeing new art and meeting new artists. If you love Dieselpunks, here's how you can help.
If you want to help, I don't need your money, I need your mind.
Your participation is worth more than your wallet.
Write an article, an interview, or start a new weekly series for the blog. Start a new contest for the groups. Spread the word about us on your website. Keep the forums active with new thoughts, ideas, and debates. Draw a picture. Write a story. Ask others for help building a new project.Keep the movement moving!
If we all sit back and do nothing, then eventually the well will run dry.
Create something, and your work will inspire others to do likewise.A posse ad esse,
