What did others honestly think of Sucker Punch?

Personally I was a little let down after all the hype around it...

Visually AHHHH-MAY-ZING!!!! ....but pretty much little more than a collection of some of the coolest CGI work in a long time... spoilt by cardboard characterture characters and dodgy acting I thought...

*shrugs* maybe I was just expecting too much... the DP answer to Star Wars??? LOL!

Glad I saw it... but woulda enjoyed it more at DVD rental prices than at cinema tickets prices,,,

What did others think of it?

Still waiting for the local premiere (Apr. 21).

I paid top dollar for a pirated copy of a reviewers (I assume - by the high quality) DVD... shoulda waited till the price dropped after general release or a good torrent became available... maybe that's what I feel let down about.. *sigh*

Where are you Lord K? I'm pretty sure it's April 7 release here in Oz...

I was expecting amazing visuals, and I got them; I was hoping for reasonably believable action scenes, and I got them. That's the reason I was essentially satisfied with the movie. It would have been good to see something more in terms of story and character developement, but in the end I think it was worth the price of the ticket.
I'm going next weekend with my girl.. The trailer sure looks promising, though!
My wife and I very much enjoyed it. I think Leviathan said it best for me.

It had striked me as one way cool Alan Moore's story that he would had hated seeing adapted - regardless the fact he never wrote it.

Is this good? Well, did you like Watchmen?

I liked them both. I'ts paying the price of being a hybrid, though, on the box office: it's not just an CGI/action-packed nor a psychological drama, but maybe 70% of the former, 30% of the latter. Maybe. I fully liked it for its whole 100%, but I understand objections against it: there's people I've heard around with this feeling of "something is lacking", or if that the story wasn't really/completely told. IMHO, I think the story was told, and very well. The lacking thing may be coming from this hybrid format, again.

Just can't wait for the dvd!

Don't get me wrong I liked it and would give it 4 out of 5 stars .... but after all the hype I was expecting it to be a 6....
After reading all this. I feel like watching it when it comes out of DVD. (Things still come out on DVD, right?)
No, don't wait til DVD. The special effects are far too good for small screen. It definitely needs to be seen on the big screen. I wish we had a "spoiler" tag because there's some details in the movie that I would to discuss but would be a spoiler for those who haven't seen it.
Hmmm. Maybe we could start a second topic, but with a big SPOILER ZONE in the subject?

I like that idea Luiz.

Would that be ok to do, Tome?

It was a fantastic looking movie. The only thing I didn't like about was that by the end I was beginning to get slightly nauseous from the semi-shakeycam the used occasionally in the fights. Still, I think a slight bit of nausea was a fair trade to see such a visually stunning film on the big screen.
