I almost forgot to mention this: This summer, Turner Classic Movies, in association with Indiana's Ball State University, is offering a class on Film Noir called "Summer of Darkness: Investigating Film Noir." The class actually started on the 1st, but I'm pretty sure you can still enroll, and it hasn't gone far yet. You also don't have to be a TCM subscriber to take the class, though it helps, as TCM is rolling out film noir classics all summer. (I also think the class will be offered again later in the summer, but I'm not sure on that...)
You can learn more at their website, at http://www.tcm.com/summerofdarkness/.
Included in the first week is the classic German film "M", starring Peter Lorre. And yes, they will talk about that black bird at some point.
