The Caproni Campini N.1 (sometimes referred to as the CC.2) was an experimental aircraft built by the Italian aircraft manufacturer Caproni. It was considered the first jet-powered airplane to take flight, before the Heinkel He 178 was made public.It's first flight was in 27 august 1940.

Considering that the main action of a spindle derived four-stroke engine, is not strictly a jet, but the concept is really, principles and ideas. So, if course, is ahead of his time. As you can see here:

A "Thermo" or "Motorjet", but the concept was getting there! So, she does make for an interesting bird!
