Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

So I take Betty(my DIY motorbike) out for a ride to see what I can find. I've been to multitudes of antique stores, but not like this, this one was almost part museum! So I go inside, there are the casual things: Dolls, toys, clothes, furniture, and dishware. But I found so much more that I've never seen. I found:

-a bunch of antique political buttons "I'm with Dewey" and other stuff like that.

-antique military medals and patches

-family photos

-antique slot and pinball machines

-an antique pocketwatch with the original chain($250!!!!)

-antique keys, now I have a key to something I don't own.

And there were so many more things, and I look around at these and I notice that if I had bought out the pins and patches, I would literally be able to live in a different era! Not only can I dress piecraftian, I can actually wear political objects  that don't even apply to the current time period! Now for some actual discussion, tell me Dieselpunks:

-What is your best find from an antique or thrift store?

-Do you own anything now that applied only to a different time period (political buttons, political signs, obsolete flags, etc)?

-What would you like to have from another time period?

-Anything else you feel like adding?

I live pretty close to two big antique towns. The first is Mullica Hill, NJ, which has a mile long Main Street crammed with nothing but antique stores (every variety). The other is Cape May, NJ. Cape May is a "living Victorian" town, where all of the homes in the central district are kept in the original bombastic Victorian gingerbread style. They have some antique stores to search, but most of the stores in Cape May cater to summer tourists.

Lets see once I found a pretty awesome t shirt at a local shop which has an elk on it, from the elk's antlers hang human teeth on red threads, not really diesel punk but it seems to evoke for me some this sort of kooky old timey vibe. . .kind of like a Neutral Milk Hotel song (their second album was *sorta* diesel punk. . .at last a little right?)

I have a globe which still has the USSR labeled on it not,no that old I know. I nearly bought a pin that said "Bart Simpson in 1996" but my mom wouldn't let me get it -_- I need to find that pin! Oh and some of my mom's old stuff like a glittery nativity scene and a turtle shaped incense burner.

I'd like some dresses from the twenties, a Korean War jacket (Just like the girl in Freaks And Geeks :D), and some old boots. I also want a typewriter and a really cheap boombox from the 80's (I'm trying to record a lo-fi album but it is hard with newer devices.)

Oh did I mention I really dig Neutral Milk Hotel?
