Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

I'm looking to update the homepage jukebox with some new tunes for the Summer time.

Any favorite song/band suggestions?

Here's a song called Summer Wind, by Old Blue Eyes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIhggEymGHw

Frankie Laine's The Sunny Side of the Street (well, it's sunny in summer ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeI-fpf1WK8

Eddie Cochran: Summertime Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItOCOeskC20

The Drifters--Under the Boardwalk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV6WgRAN9FU

Johnny River's Summer Rain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLZt8rEfsF4

Well, that's a few more summer songs, some more modern, however.
Thanks for the linkage. I'll check it out to see if they broadcast the show in Philly.
I have a page on last.fm that I've dedicated to steampunk music, but have lately been adding more dieselpunk. For Dieaselpunk (melange of era specific and new styles), I would recommend Top Shelf Jazz, Beirut, The Scarring Party, The Puppini Sisters, The real Tuesday Weld. Also lately there have been a number of Electro Swing and Swing House compilations that I would qualify as Dieselpunk. Swing music with modern dance mix production. That actually sound really good. Probably more for the dancefloor than your ipod but I dropped them into the mix on my steampunk page and they seem to fit in nicely and don't disrupt the flow. Juiced Music is the hot tip. I hope this helps. the page has been set up to help promote steampunk and now dieselpunk music and is not a bad place to start looking for artists that have embraced steampunk. http://www.last.fm/user/newvictorians
This is a great source of info for our Dieselpunk Music forum. Unfortunately we're unable to broadcast music we don't have the licenses/copyright to.

I assume LastFM works with the record companies and pays the standard royalties that Dieselpunks can't possibly afford without help from the bands themselves.
Yes, you can actually "play the library." It streams for an hour, or if you sign up It will play for longer. If you don't sign up, you can simply hit play again when it times out. They do pay royalties to the artists when their music is played and they appear to be making their money via ad sales. They must be doing pretty well, because they have some big name advertisers. The NewVictorians library goes from ukulele music to dance music (and includes everything in between). FWIW I'm trying to create an atmosphere as much as anything, so it's not all one particular type or tempo of music. I find the overall affect to be more like listening to a soundtrack album, rather than listening to the radio or something. I like to think that even if you find it unlistenable, you should still be able to find stuff that you would want to add to your collection.
Thanks for the info, Major Mojo.

Maybe one day we'll be rich enough to play with the big boys. Until then, it's old-timey music 24/7.
C.W. Stoneking - Pretty much anything off his "Jungle Blues" album but the song "Jungle Blues", "Brave Son of America", "The Love Me or Die" or "I Heard the Marching of the Drums"
They do have a widget that you can add to FaceBook or MySpace pages and a developers forum if you're a coder. You could always make your own page, add artists and songs (which you can do by listening to other peoples libraries) and then use the widget on your site. Not perfect, but it does accomplish adding music to your page and let's the artists get paid for plays as well.

But what I really want to say is C.W. Stoneking is amazing! Thanks to Murphy for sharing that.
I was wondering, couldn't you add some proto-dieselpunk/steampunk music like Mather Louth, Vernian Process, etc (which I can't remmember at the moment) ? I like 20s-50s retro music, I just think it would be more interest to mix both.
Due to copyright laws, I need permission from the artists/record labels before I can broadcast their music.

As for Vernian Process, you can listen to their whole "Behold the Machine" album on the homepage jukebox.
No problem. He is my absolute favorite. I became hooked on him from his first album "king Hokum", which has more of a pre-war era blues sound, it's amazing if you like old-timey blues. I was absolutely blown when this album sounded the way it did. He also has a facebook (which he actually logs into) page you could probably get in touch with him that way and get permission if you are interested. I think I also have a Email address that he responded to before when I bought some stuff from him. I could PM you that if the facebook option fails.

Oh yeah he did an amazing cover of The white stripes 7 nation army on Triple J radio. His version FAR surpasses the original.
A Brilliant idea! Any place to find some good dieseltunes!
