Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Has anyone seen this Anime? I came across it on Youtube quite by accident, following a link from a video about The Rocketeer. It's set in an alternate present (past? future?), where war has been ended by allowing companies to wage an endless war using clones, to satisfy humanity's bloodlust. Or at least that's what I gather from the trailers. The aircraft look a lot like the planes from Crimson Skies, and the aerial combat sequences are simply stunning.

Hrm, the openeing gave me a rather "Ender's Game" feel...

With heros too young to understand the reality of their battles

Anyway, looks pretty neat!

It's not as great as it looks.

Mostly about emo kids and not so much about the dogfights.

Well... bollucks :(
The Sky Crawlers might just be the most gorgeous anime I have ever seen. Too bad it's boring as balls. The emotion isn't there, the fight scenes are confusing and pointless - but not in the way they meant it to be. They wanted 'war is confusing and pointless' and got 'bad movie'.

The twist ending is really poor.

Though the twist middle was pretty cool.

Sadly, neither were well foreshadowed - and what foreshadowing there was was really obvious, and also some of the most boring parts. Watching a dude fold a newspaper for almost thirty seconds - twice, in case you missed it the first time - just so we can pick up on the twist when it happens later is really poor pacing. The movie would have been much better if it shaved a good twenty minutes of the run time.
