Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Hi everyone.

I'm relatively new to the community and was wondering how many people on here are in the UK.

I'm from Manchester and want to know if there are any meet-ups or conventions at all over here.

If there aren't any yet then I think some should be organised - I'm not really one for doing that kind of thing myself, but hopefully this will get the ball rolling.

Look forward to reading any replys.

Simon.

Hi Simon,
I'm in Surrey and while I don't know of any Diesel events in the UK, I do have friends who go to Asylum Steampunk festival in the autumn. You can find details online.

Doc

Looks good. Cheers.

Hullo! I'm from the south-west of England. My husband and I are off to Waltz on the Wye in Chepstow (South Wales) in May - it's a steampunk festival, but very friendly. The organisers are friends of mine and they really want me to go full-on diesel this year, which is both liberating - I can wear MY clothes - and unnerving - flying the flag for diesel.

Excellent. In the (unfortunately unlikely) event that I'm not working that weekend I may have to attend!

It can be done. Here in the US we've got two groups, mine in the Texas and Johnny Dellarocca has just started one in Tennessee. There's also one in Australia and one in Canada.

So it can be done. Good luck.

A good first step might be to declare an informal meet up at a restaurant, post it to the site, and see if you can generate interest.

The wife and I will be in London at the end of May, so if a gathering is attempted the last weekend next month in that area, post it on the site, and I'll try to make it!

That sounds like a plan - an informal meeting somewhere in London? i'm not from London myself, but it is central to most people...

We're getting so close to our trip to the UK, and we're so excited! A few days in Nottingham, and a few days in London, with stops here and there for good measure.

Remember to post any gatherings dates, and we'll try to fit it in with what will no doubt be a crazy busy schedule.

I've been trying to organise a Dieselpunk/Steampunk group in my area in the Midlands.

Hi Simon,

A little shameless self-promo - our film 'Dimensions' is playing at the Manchester Science Festival on the 27th October. Sloane (director) and I will be there for a Q&A. The film is set in the 1920s/30s and is about a brilliant scientist who is obsessed with going back to revisit a moment from his childhood. http://www.manchestersciencefestival.com/whatson/dimensions

The teaser is here - http://youtu.be/pq3vwQywQ54

If you can make it, please come and say 'hi' to us.

Best,

Ant
