Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

The Dieselpunk movement seems to be growing, but I haven't heard of any events, cons, etc. local to Southern California. I don't mean a panel at a general comic con type of event, or a small part of a steampunk convention. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of an actual dieselpunk event here in SoCal.

I know about Dapper Day a Disneyland, but is there anything else out there?

If not, I'll just start one.       ;)

Hi Travis,

Most dieselpunk events aren't officially branded as "dieselpunk."

While we've been around for a while, the name never really took off as something the general public understood.  To that point, the steampunks are almost burning out trend-wise, and they just got accepted the dictionary as a real thing.

It's a challenge of staying below the radar, and staying tight.  For SoCal, I would give you the same advice I give to most.  Haunt car shows, air shows, and electroswing events in your club wear, and try to keep your street legal gear in your daily fashion rotation.  This way, you're attracting like-to-like at the targeted events, and still staying true to yourself during the week.

That being said, there is one legendary group in your area.  If you can find a Golden Stag event in LA, make it a mission to attend.  They're mind blowing.

I'm having the same troubles in the Seattle area.  Though I like Tome's advice and will start checking it out.  I have a few friends who are in to car shows that can get me hooked into the events they have.

I thought Seattle was "steampunk-opia" compared to the rest of the US.  I'm surprised there aren't more events you can share.

Are the Steam Rats still operating out there?

There are quite a lot of steampunk events in the area.  Though SteamCon is sadly no more.  I heard a new steampunk convention has risen up for its first event in September.  I think the Steam Rats are still around.  There was a weekly meeting for steampunk folks which sadly I can't make due to other conflicts.

I live in the Air Show capital, right near Edwards Air Force Base, but there are other air shows, including the World's Smallest Air Show at a place called Brian Ranch.  Really, it's just people with homemade craft that they fly for a day.  It's pretty neat, but very small and doesn't really have a retro theme.

I've never really been into cars before, but lately, I've been noticing all the classic cars in my area, so I'll definitely look for upcoming car shows.  Good idea, Tome.

I may actually start an event, as well.  My cheeky comment in the first post started the creative juices flowing.  I'll let you all know if anything comes of it.

If you do start an event, Travis let us know.  Southern Cali isn't far out of my range.  :)

There is not a lot of information posted yet but this is the follow on event to SteamCon, Steamposium:  http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/events/steamposium-i  We are not sure if we can make this event yet especially since the first Alaska Sp event is two weeks later and both are pricey flights.

Yep, that's the one.  Thanks for the link!

I'm still on the fence about it.  I'll probably pick up tickets and attend as it's close to home and I want to support the scene as much as I can.
