Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

If one searches Dieselpunk in Wiki, once again it takes it back to a paragraph in Cyberpunk Derivatives. I can't find out who did this. Nor did I get any message of it being flagged for removal.

The Jihad continues, it seems.

God forbid anyone outside certain people's narrow view of "notable" have ideas or values to share.

I saw this right before bed last night and was too tired to jump back into the ring at the time. The one comment I could find on a talk page was that some idiot posted that Dieselpunk isn't a genre but just "pulp fiction." I assume this the Philistine that used his or her power to take it down and redirect it to the Cyberpunk Derivative page. I don't know what happened to the Wiki editor who came in like a knight in shining armor to reinstate it the last time.

It appears to me that they violated their own policies in how it was removed. I know that I've visited the page within the last month and I haven't seen any alerts that they were threatening to take it down.

Looks like this is going to take a tag team effort again by us to try to get it reinstated.

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!"

It's ridiculous. Oops, they did it again - when right before their stupid eyes there's a score of artists and authors deliberately calling their work "Dieselpunk". A score of international and local communities and blogs, not to mention high activity @ Facebook (I don't use it, but a lot of good people spread the word there).

A year ago they still could argue that we are just fooling around labeling this and that. No more. They are fighting against reality.

Outrageous. Shameful. Dixi.

You already know my opinion, Fuck 'em.

We still can use (and recommend) the cached version.

Thanks for the cached version. Obviously, I had missed the warnings. Damn. I wish we had noticed and might have stopped this.

You're welcome. I've seen the so-called "discussion". It's even more ridiculous than I could imagine.

Btw, feel free to use my Dieselpunk stack @ Delicious.com, as well as other links from my vault tagged "dieselpunk". There is some reference to your articles too.

Just so you guys know: The redirect was discussed at ANI, which is where the majority of discussion occured. You can find the discussion PERMANENTLY archived here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboar...

It's rather long reading and I did register just to post this so that you can know the full story.

Well, hell. I'm just about getting to the same position as Tome. Fuck, Wikipedia. Nobody respects them as a reliable source anyway, which is why students can't reference them.

I say we take our Wiki page and use it to create a Dieselpunk reference page of our own. There's platforms such as Wordpress that might fit the bill.

I'm going to start working on an alternative platform for the page.

It didn't take long. I created the following, which I'll start transferring the information over to soon. Here's the link:

Don't let the look or lack of details concern you. This is just a raw site and much more work will take place before it's ready to be rolled out for public presentation.

I second that. What a bunch of farts, OMG! There is one righteous person in this Wikisodom - hats off to Andy Dingley! But I don't want to have anything in common with others, especially with this Cunningham person. Down with Wikipedia, long live Dieselpunk!

P.S. In a year or two some of them will write a grossly inaccurate article to describe our movement.

P.P.S. In the meanwhile, Larry, I advise you to include both Piecraft and Ottens versions of Wiki article into the new Encyclopaedia.

Thank you Mr C for this fascinating read. With only minor alterations the discussion can pass for an extract from The Trial by Franz Kafka* found in some obscure Prague attic. What a piece of grim absurdity it is!

* No, Franz Kafka wasn't a Dieselpunk.
