Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

As (listening to, not playing myself) music plays a big part in my life I wondered what music you people listen to?

Here's a short (?) overview of my musical taste:

Though being rooted in metal since my childhood (at the age of eleven, now I'm 32) and was a quite intolerant metalhead till about 18/19, I nowadays would never want to miss the other genres I then opened my ears to.

Metal (with pagan/black and epic metal being my faves) was and will always be special to me but there are many other styles of music I absolutely enjoy and love:

- martial industrial like Triarii, LJDLP, L'Effet C'est Moi…

- neofolk like Of The Wand And the Moon, Solblot, Changes

- synth music like Tangerine Dream (loved such music since first hearing TD's "Street Hawk" theme as a kid), Klaus Schulze, Telomere, Area51

- Marillion's stuff with Fish as a singer (Script…, Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood, Clutching…)

- Bruce Springsteen's earlier albums (pre-Born In The USA so to say…)

- IDM/electronic stuff like Anhedonia, Autechre, Future Sound Of London

- streetrock/punk like The Bones, Dropkick Murphys, Discipline, The Boys...

- 80s stuff which I already loved as a kid when lisitening to the radio (New Order, Ultravox etc.)

- industrial and "cyber-like" music like NIN, Left Spine Down, Frontline Assembly, Ministry

- movie scores like Conan, Kull, Back To The Future, Superman, Indy… (I love leitmotifs and catchy themes)

- music from videogames, esp. those from ym childhood days

- shoegaze in the vein of Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine

- The Birthday Massacre (though I'm normally bored by goth stuff, but this band has something special ... don't know what exactly, some kind of 80s synthie sugar sweet and Disney-evil atmosphere. I just love their music)

I also occascionally write reviews (in german and english) for an online metal & dark music magazine. my reviews are all linked here i my blog (if you like to read them ;) )

So, what about you people? Which kind of music do you like?

Jazz standards.
40's and 50's movie soundtracks. Chicago electric blues ('Chess blues')
60's - British R&B, Northern Soul, British Invasion, Psychedelic, Mod
70's - Glam Rock, Progressive and Ian Dury!!!
Punk, ska and ska-punk as well as rock steady. Mod revival.
Laibach. Kusturica. Turbo-folk from the Balkans.
And sometimes - Beethoven, Haydn and Verdi.
Not yet, I'll find something online.
@Beauregard: After this little chat i've discovered God Is An Astronaut as well. Pretty good stuff, if you're into post-rock.
listening to a lot "cyberpunkish" music again these days... stuff like KMFDM, FLA etc. Especially LEFT SPINE DOWN is rotating a lot in my player. A great blend of punk, metal, Drum'n Bass and electronics:

Left Spine Down has a good clean sound. Thanks for the tip!

Their style reminds me of a horrorpunk band named Calabrese. It must be that Misfit's inspired refrain in "Last Daze."
My playlist includes everything from Nick Cave to Johnny Cash to Einsturzende Neubauten to various metal bands to industrial to goth to steam and diesel to big band to soundtrack music and classical... whatever suits my mood at that moment :)
