Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Not STRICTLY writing-related, but I feel like this is something a bunch of world-building authors might help with...

I identify more as a dieselpunk with steampunk leanings. My wife identifies more with steampunk, although she's expressed some interest in various dieselpunk elements. So I was wondering if it might be possible to craft a world combining elements of both? I've been kicking it around and can't seem to find anything that "clicks." They might be too different, but I keep thinking that Star Wars combined space opera and knight fantasies and made it work, so the SHOULD be a way....

Any ideas?

I wrote a novella a few years back that followed two generations from the waning days of Victoria to the start of WWII. My readers asked for the sequel. So, when the publisher folded up shop, I took another look at it and realized there was a lot more of the story that needed telling. I'm working on the last couple of chapters right now, but I think it covers both steam and diesel punk. Airship Legacy is the new title and it starts a bit earlier and ends a bit later.

The Leviathan series by Scott Westerfield is the best example of that blend I can think of. His tale is a take on WWI with the Allies and Central powers replaced by Darwinists and Clankers, the latter of which definitely harken to dieselpunk, although the series is generally considered steampunk.

I keep hearing about that series; I'm going to have to either read it or have my wife get the audio books for our road trips...

Sounds interesting; let me know if and when it becomes available! But it sounds like you have a steampunk world that develops into a dieselpunk world; I was thinking more along the lines of both somehow existing together.
