what happened to Drive-in theaters? It seems as if they have been wiped from the earth. do you think we should bring back drive-in theaters?
We still have a six-screen drive in here in Sacramento, and we go once in a while, but not often, really. The drive in in my hometown was a regular spot for me, but is now closed. Mostly I like the seating and sound better in a stadium seating theater. For me, drive ins were good for when my kids were young, and if they were noisy, no one could hear them but me in our car.
My wife & I went to a drive-in in central PA during a weekend away last summer. There are still a few out there, but they're struggling; the economics are VERY different now than they were in the heyday of the drive-in. Land is more expensive, and remember that the local multiplex can have multiple showings of 10 or so movies during the course of the day; drive-ins need to wait for it to get dark, so they can fit in 1 double feature in the same amount of space (or more). But I still think they're a lot of fun. If you see one, attend! It would be a shame to see them vanish entirely.
