Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture
Looking for ideas for Dieselpunk Hairstyles
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if haircuts and hairstyles are really considered a part of fashion, but I wasn't sure where else to post this. If I'm posting in the wrong group, please let me know. I'm looking for ideas for a short, somewhat easy to maintain haircut with a dieselpunk influence. I'd really like one that can go well with both very masculine and very feminine styles of clothing and accessories, because I like to wear both, depending on how I feel. I already have a pair of 1950s-influenced Rayban cat eye glasses, and am thinking of getting these glasses from Oakley for daily wear. I like military-influenced fashion a lot, and do a good portion of my shopping for wardrobe basics and accessories at military surplus stores.
I really like the "Unladylike" hairstyle from Fallout 3, but I'm not sure that I could pull this off or that it's very dieselpunk as opposed to just "punk".
Anyway, if anyone's got experience with short dieselpunk inspired hairstyles, I'd be very happy to get some advice! I'm trying to build up a nice everyday diesepunk look.

If you want something low-maintenance, it depends on what your hair will do naturally.
For example, if I let my high-and-tight cut grow out, my hair forms curly ringlets like Gavin Rossdale's hair. This isn't very good for a mohawk, spikes, or anything that requires straight locks.
Also, from the glasses, I'm assuming you like more of a '40s - '50s look, right? Just like big bangs and mullets went out of style in the '80s, hairstyles changed a lot during the diesel-era.

Naturally, my hair isn't exactly curly, but it is wavy and pretty thick. I had a pixie cut about a year ago and could keep my hair fairly straight with a little bit of styling jell, which was low-maintenence enough for me.
I know the diesle-era covers a large timespan; I should have been more specific in my post. The 1940s is probably my favorite era, but I'm having some trouble finding short hairstyles that can look kind of...androgynous. I think most of the short hair for women during the 1940s involved up-dos, and the hairstyles for men were crew cuts; there doesn't seem to be an example of something that's kind of in the middle.

Yeah. Gender roles were pretty tight back then. Maybe just go with an updated haircut and have that be the "punk" in your dieselpunk look. For example, think poodle skirts matched with a devil lock. By themselves, pretty tame, but mash the look together and you get something new.
