Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Noam recently scripted a great article on how music related to Steampunk, and not whether there is steampunk music (as a lot of people will argue), but how steampunk incorporates music into its style.  As examples, he points out three schools of thoughts on steampunk music, including:

  • Music about steampunk, like Abney Park
  • Music outside of steampunk but is still welcome by steampunk fans, like many Sepiachord bands
  • Music within steampunk; the crazy sounds that come from steampunk's alternate reality, such as the Clockwork Quartet or Escape the Clouds

How do you feel about steampunk music?

While I'm not sure if it's an official music genre, I do feel that there is a certain steampunk "sound" that just seems to fit right in with the whole steampunk vibe, such as Doctor Steel who doesn't really have many songs about steampunk, but i feel his sound just fits in rather well.
In your opinion, what makes Dr. Steel steampunk?

I think people made a mistake when label groups (or anything else) as steampunk if they don´t argue that, so why we still call bands as steampunk if that doesn´t was his intentions...

Abney Park has the aesthetic (and I think they are the responsables for the pirates on SP wich of course it wasn´t Victorian Topic anyway...)

But there are actually bands who claim themselves SP... like Vernian Process If J. Pffeifer don´t star the concept "steampunk music" maybe the dark wave band never became one of the most representatives from the genre.

I can´t think about Dr Steel as a steampunk, He is so pulp for me, I though better on Professor Elemental or The Gentle Rhymer like a SP Music before Dr Steel...
