Sideshow Scholar: Your character has studied into the art of circus attractions and sideshow acts. You start as an expert in Knowledge Circus(75) and are instantly proficient in acrobatics.


Rich:  she has more money than she can ever spend.  Money is not a problem. Anything from a store can be bought, making the only limitation being the store’s inventory. Upgrades only need blueprints to be completed.


Contacts:  The Raven is not the smartest or wisest Mystery Person out there. But she has the money and the personality that allows her to collect experts.  They provide her with equipment, information, and advice. 



Lydia Somerson was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.  Her father is a rich industrialist who not only survived the Depression, he positively thrived, making their family wealth that much more.  Her mother is minor British nobility and a jetsetting social butterfly, rubbing elbows with the rich and famous.  But being so rich and fabulous leaves little time for child-rearing, so Lydia was raised mostly by the household staff of their estate on a private island in the Outer Banks.


Through a strange set of circumstances, most of the staff on the estate are related to one another, a large, extended family of circus performers who escaped Russia two jumps ahead of the Bolsheviks.  Babushka Kolemnikov, the family matriarch and housekeeper (she was the one who hired the rest of the family) took poor, lonesome, excruciatingly shy Lydia under her wing, and started teaching her about the family business.  Under the tutelage of Babushka, she learned arialism, climbing, trapeze, tightrope walking, and climbing.  Under Uncle Dimitri (Babushka's brother), Lydia learned juggling, knife throwing and how to use the bullwhip and pistols.  Under the footmen she learned eastern and western combat.

Begin Game!

You start your day like any other, in your room in your family's manor. The staff are already up and about, cooking and cleaning. The headmaid, Babushka Kolemnikov, tosses the curtains open, sheading the morning sun into the room. You have a number of options:

1)talk to Babushka(get info)
2)head downstairs(begin mission)
3)search room(find items)

Oh, Lord it's entirely too early for the sun to be that bright.  I pull the blanket up over my face to shield myself from the fearful rays.  I must have said something as I did this, because Babushka chuckles and tugs the blankets back down.

"Get up, malenkaya obezyanka," says Babushka.  Little monkey.  She's called me that since I was four years old.

"I hate you," I growl. But she knows I don't mean it; she only stands there, hands on her hips, waiting for me to obey. And I do.  I throw back the blankets and sit up.  "I'm up, I'm up!" I moan.  "What was so terribly important I had to get up at...."  I look at the clock.  "... eleven o'clock?  Wow.  It's later than I thought."


(does everyone in the manor know she's a vigilante? Or only a select few? Or no one? I forgot to ask that...)

All staff know.  Most of the staff helped train her, and look at her as a baby sister as much as an employer.  Nobody outside that circle know;  certainly not her parents or anybody in her social circle.

(Right, got it)

Babushka wags her finger at you. "You know crime never sleeps. You have training. You have scouting. You have to be at a social party with the fat cats at 7pm. All of these things, and no room for sleeping in."

Lifting you out of the bed, she helps you get dressed for breakfast. "Now, your father is in town today, so make the best of it. I'll be here if you need anything."

I should feel properly chastised; Babushka is right.  Lounging in bed until noon is for the silly social creatures I went to finishing school with.  I chose a different path. It only takes a few minutes to get dressed.  But I can't find my hairbrush.  So I go searching for it.

You find a good number of items.
-mother's locket(an accessory that increases HAPPINESS by 50. If your mother happens to die tragicly, HAPPINESS is changed into SORROW. If your mother dies from a killer, HAPPINESS is turned into VENGENCE.)

Everything else is unnecessary for your nightly journeys.

I put the necklace on, slip the knives under my dress, tucking two into cunning little pockets in my petticoat and slipping the other two into the tops of my stockings.  I didn't like to go unarmed, even to breakfast.  After finding my hairbrush, I quickly tame my hair in a quick braid.  I give Babushka a kiss on the cheek and a whispered "Spasibo, Babushka," and then dash downstairs.

As I walk through the house I am greeted with waves and "Dobroe utro , sestrenka," (good morning, little sister) from the footmen and maids, which I answer; Mama and Daddy aren't around to hear me speaking with such familiarity with the help.  Good thing; they wouldn't approve.  But these people, Babushka's children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, they were the closest thing I had to a family when Mama and Daddy were off traveling the world in search of fortune and pleasure.  They gave me love and turned this house into a home for me.

Of course, they also gave me the skills I needed for my nocturnal journeys into the most dangerous corners of Atlanta.  Who knew the skills and tools of circus performers -- with the Kolemnikov family had been for six generations, before they decided to share them with me -- could be used to such good effect on the criminal element?

Anyway, I soon found the breakfast room, a sunny, warm room with an enormous bank of windows that let in the morning light.  Daddy sat at the table, still in his dressing gown and slippers.  The remains of his breakfast lay on the plate before him forgotten, alongside a cup of coffee.  He was essentially invisible, hidden behind this morning's issue of the Wall Street Times.  The Atlanta Courier Journal, unread, lay beside the toast rack.

"Good morning, Daddy," I said, as I went to the sideboard.  A late breakfast -- scrambled eggs, grits, sausages, tomato slices, home fries, biscuits, toast -- waited for me to help myself, which I did, filling my plate and going to sit opposite my father.  A pitcher of milk and a carafe of fresh orange juice waited on the table.  I helped myself to a glass of each, and started eating.

Daddy had not answered my 'good morning,' but that was typical of him when he was reading the stock reports.  "How is business, Daddy?" I said, as I dug into my breakfast. 

That got Daddy's attention.  He lowered the paper.  "Steel prices are going up.  That's good news for Somerson Steel, not so great for Somerson Manufacturing," he said.

"Uh huh," I said, around a mouthful of fried potatoes.  God, they were delicious, with just a hint of rosemary and onion. 

Daddy frowned at my plate.  "Lydia, you know how your mother feels about you eating with such .. abandon.  Why aren't you getting fat?"

My nightly jaunts were more than enough exercise to work off breakfast, but I couldn't tell him that.  "I keep busy.  Are you finished with the paper?"  pointing with my fork toward the Atlanta Courier Journal.

"Take it," said Daddy, and pushed the paper over to me.  "As usual, that Hitler fellow over in Germany is on the front pages.  I don't know why everybody is so upset about him; it's not like he has enough money or materials to start another war.  It's just sabre rattling."

"Of course, Daddy," I said.  I unfolded the paper and began to read.

(well? anything interesting in the paper?  Outside the paper?)

Due to your high knowledge in the circus, you instantly find a small square in the corner of the paper. It simply says The Devil's Circus with the picture of a red faced man with goat horns. (Noted) (your instincts tell you that Babushka might know a thing or two about it).

It lets you know of the armed robbery that took place at Monopoly Bank. Any further clues shall be around that area. (Noted)

If you want to find anything else in the paper, you will have to roll a d20. Do you have a dice or a webpage to do that? I always just type in "D100 dice" on google and find the D&D web page that has that.

I make note of the Circus, its location and schedule of shows.  This is definitely something I'd like to check out.  I also make a mental note to speak to Babushka or Uncle Dmitri (Babushka's brother, head footman and patriarch of the family) about it. 

A robbery at the Monopoly Bank?  Well, I guess I know where The Raven will be patrolling tonight.

After making note of this information, I flip through the paper, looking for anything of interest. 

i must be muttering to myself, because Daddy lowers his own paper to look at me. "If you're looking for the society section, your mother has it.  I could send Alexei up to see if she's finished."

"No, thank you, Daddy," I say.  "Just looking for the funny pages.  I want to see if Flash Gordon escaped the clutches of Ming's Mudmen."

Daddy rolls his eyes.  "Sports section, last page but one," he sighs, before looking back to his own paper.

I roll my eyes, too.  Daddy thinks I'm  giddy society girl.  And that's just fine with me.  I return to searching the paper.

(I just rolled a 6.)

You find an article about a new scientific research but all of the techno babble goes over your head. Another article involving the new Egyptian exibit in the museum comes into view:
"Never before opened sarcophagus from the great king Rootin Tootin will be opened today at 2pm. History in the making. This will be a sight you don't want to miss!"

Nothing else is of any real importance.
