Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture
This playlist is simply so awesome, thank you for you effort! Also, doesn't anyone know if the 2009 playlist can be found somewhere (just the song titles are enough)?
Caravan Palace is simply perfect. But, recently, listening to their latest album, I suddenly had a feeling that had already heard something similar, and guess what? I think that their "slower" parts have some similarities to Portishead!
I love Caravan Palace. Thank for posting this Professor.
I have just recently been turned on to this band "Caravan Palace" from France by a friend. The song is entitled "la caravane qui t'emmene". A fantastic upbeat Gypse-Swing-Jazz sound.
Ed has a great idea about jazz. Obviously the twenties was known as the Jazz Age for good reason.
Another idea is make it a Blues theme. Classic blues include modern.
For the next playlist, see what you think of the no-wave jazz band The Lounge Lizards' eponymous first album. The "Harlem Nocturne" cover is fascinating, as is the original tune "Conquest of Rar."
Also noteworthy are the electroswing outfit Der Dritte Raum, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire. Andrew Bird played on some of the Squirrel Nut Zippers stuff. By the way, The Wolfgang Parker interview was great, glad to see an Ohio boy representing us.
I didn't realize songs couple be rated. ;D I will go ahead and do that sometime.
As you're listening, be sure to rate the songs. This system lets us know which songs should be included in future playlists and which ones need to be dumped.
yay! New playlist!
many thanks! nice soundtrack to a freezing monday morning in Moscow.
Ladies and gentlemen. I am proud to announce the debut of the 2012 Winter Playlist!
Hi Mr. Amage,
I've always felt that Richard Cheese's style falls into the post-War "lounge" era of music rather than the upbeat tunes of the '30s and early '40s big bands.
I would like to thank you for taking the effort of serving us all these fine tunes.. i enjoy 'em daily and they have undeniably enriched my personal musical spectrum!.
Now, i happen to notice that there is an artist that has not yet appeared in your lists and in my opinon most certainly deserves to be; Richard Cheese and his band, Lounge Against the Machine.
They are a coverband who brutally transform contemporary rocksongs into Loungy jazz music, i'd say there is some dieselpunk-attitude in that. They have quite a repertoire and some of the lyrics ar explicit to say at least, but there are definately a few songs that would seemlessly slip into the list..
Let's get it started
Welcome to the jungle
Girls, girls, girls
Rock the kasbah
Bust a move
Hoping to be of some service,
Somebody should add some Sinatra to the mix!
Electro swing mmmmmmmmmmm lovely,
I'd propose some tracks by Budzillus (Der Untergang, Stupid Song, Devil's Polka), and maybe some more extreme stuff from The CNK. And also dark-folk may be rather apropriate for the winter, I've mentioned some examples here: http://www.dieselpunks.org/group/music/forum/topics/how-restricted-...
I'm building the Winter playlist.
Can you recommend a good musician who I probably haven't heard of. One hit wonders are okay, as long as the music is good.
Such cool stuff. Thanks so much for posting
An excellent musical selection, as allways @Tome.
Im glad that many songs of the list We´ve on MetronomiK´s audio flies.
