The Lady Noire

It seems Dior made a range of commercials, some of which is in a 1930s style. It doesn´t make much sense to me but it looks pretty. I thought you might like to see them. …Continue

1930s Lego

I was in a toystore today, trying to find a present for my niece. I noticed that Lego has a few sets and figurines that fit the 1930s/40s era. I thought some of you might be interested to see these.…Continue

Cushman colour photos of 1940s New York

The Charles W. Cushman Photography Collection has photos taken in colour, from different locales during 1938-1969. This includes colour photos of 1940s New York. I thought you might all want to have…Continue

Join the Hellboy Training Camp

I just saw that in Portland, Oregon a summer camp themed around the Hellboy comics is being arranged this summer. I wish they'd had something like this when I was younger. It's being described as a BPRD training camp, where you learn all the skills for battling the occult and surviving in the wilderness. It's good to know future generations will also know how to defend themselves against things on tresholds and whatnot.…See More

I know some have made their own dieselpunk modifications and builds, but this is for the less creative of us, who might just want to buy these "for their kids". These guys are from the Indiana Jones themed sets. They´re supposedly Hong Kong gangsters.…See More

The Artist, a modern movie done in a 1920s style

It would appear that a new movie is coming out, which is done in black and white and made to look like it´s a movie from 1927. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1655442/See More

Shanghai

One place that seems iconic for the 30s and 40s is Shanghai. It seems to have been an interesting blend of east and west, as well as popularizing the look of women in red qipaos. There´s a new movie out, called simply Shanghai, which is set there in the 1940s. It features Chow Yun Fat, John Cusack and a few others.I was wondering if anyone could…See More

What TV-shows have done Noir versions?

I have seen episodes of both Smallville and Fringe, where they tried to set things in a noir setting. Even if the Fringe episode also involved singing. Both were fun to watch. I was wondering if you gentlemen knew of any other TV-shows that have done Noir episodes?

The Mad Gasser

I thought these incidents could be a good inspiration for some dieselpunk story. Apparently in the 1940s and 1930s some unknown figure was running around in the US, gassing people in their homes. You can read about the different incidents at this webpage: Mad GassersSee More

Rocketeer fan movie

An animator named John Banana has made a CGI Rocketeer short. It´s rather well made, and can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/user4835392See More

Let us pay tribute to Hedy Lamarr

She was more than just a pretty face, even if it is an extraordinarily pretty face. She was also quite brilliant, and helped with the war effort.During parties her first husband held, she learned about military technologies and may well have met both Hitler and Mussolini. She later helped invent a method for using shifting frequencies on radio-controlled torpedoes to prevent jamming of the signals.…See More

How do we distill the 1930s?

I like the look of the 1930s and 40s, as I´d imagine do many people on here. It will probably never come back as a whole, but perhaps we can steer things in the right direction anyway. I was wondering if we could perhaps discover what it was that gave the 30s/40s that great look in clothes, architecture etc. Find out what the essence of the look really was, and try to recreate that going forward. I for one like the colour scheme, the way muted colours seems to have been rather common. Pastel…See More

A kit for turning a typewriter into a computer keyboard

This guy here has created a kit, which can be put into any typewriter, so it can be used as the keyboard for a computer. It might interest some of you, who want your 1930s style office to look more authentic. We can´t all afford a Von Slatt. A typewriter is a terrible thing to wasteSee More

Pin-ups behind the scenes

Back Issue magazine feature on pulp heroes

There´s a magazine called Back Issue, I think it´s some kind of magazine for people actually working in the comics industry. Frankly I just found it online. The latest issue, no 47, has interviews with the creator of Rocketeer, and with the people who wrote the screenplay of the movie. It also has some articles about Hugo Danner/The Gladiator, The Avenger(from Justice Inc) and a few other pulp heroes.
