We Got it Covered: Evolution of the Troubleshooter Cover

The cover of a novel has to be special. The image has to catch the eye, fire the imagination, impel the potential reader to pluck it off the shelf  -or in this modern world, click on it with their mouse. The font has to be readable and attractive. And it all has to look good in thumbnail size so that book browsers can see it online. Because that whole thing about not judging a book by its cover?A lie.I’m not an artist, photographer, or graphic designer. Creating a cover is something I’m not…See More

Hello all,I recently published a novel entitled The Troubleshooter: New Haven Blues. It's a nice blend of hardboiled noir detective and dystopian sci fi, along with some dieselpunk elements: You might recognize the style on on the cover. That would be by Stefan, the resident dieselpunk artistic master, of which I'm very proud to be working with. Details on the giveaway are on the event page, or just follow…See More

The Troubleshooter is a blend of noir detective with dieselpunk elements and cast in a dystopian future. In shorter terms, it’s Philip Marlowe meets Blade Runner. Mick Trubble has a few problems: mainly that he gambles, and he loses. So when a mysterious dame approaches him with a gig too profitable to refuse, he figure it’s the perfect opportunity to get the price off his head and his life back to normal. But the hard rule in New Haven is that any plan is bound to unravel messily. Mick has…See More

Firearms Of the Retro Future

Posted on August 21, 2012 at 11:30pm 3 Comments

When writing The Troubleshooter, I had to come up with the types of firearms that would exist in the retro-futuristic world of New Haven. Mick Trubble carries two main guns. His first choice is the Mean Ol' Broad, a heavy duty piece that fires explosive tipped slugs. I had a mental picture in mind when I wrote it: the pistol that Harrison Ford packed in the classic sci fi film Blade Runner. Recently I…
