Bieber Minus Bieber

Some enterprising steam/dieselpunk edited Bieber out of his Santa Claus is Coming To Town music video and replaced the music with Dr. Steel's Build the Robots. It's a huge improvement.Continue

The Legend of Korra

Anyone else here been following it? It's perhaps the most dieselpunk show on tv right now and, damn, it's good. You don't have to have watched the previous series, Avatar: The Last Airbender to get the gist of it, I didn't, and I'm enjoying this show greatly. The show, like it's predecessor, is heavily anime-influenced in it's overall look and feel. Basically, the world this show inhabits is a dieselpunk 1920s/1930s one with a huge Asian flavor. The music is even a mix between jazz and…See More

Movie Review: The Artist

Change is a constant force in our lives. Technologies change. Tastes change. One minute, people appreciate your talent, the next, you're outdated, an instant anachronism. But that doesn't mean you don't have talent anymore. This is the theme of The Artist, a film by French director Michel Hazanavicius that is…See More

What got you into dieselpunk?

For me, I think, was the Indiana Jones movies. The first movie that I vaguely remember watching in the cinemas was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I was about 4 then. I say vaguely because, other than the last scene with the main villian, Donovan, aging quickly into dust with only his swastika pin remaining, I don't remember much of watching it in the theater. But that one scene did stay in my mind...probably because it scared the hell out of my 4-year old mind. What I watched in the 90s,…See More

Generic Propaganda

I'm a graphic designer and I was playing around with art deco and 1930s-1940s propaganda design ideas one day. These are the products of that idea. A tad-bit influenced by Doctor Steel.

Movie Review: Red Tails

Posted on January 22, 2012 at 8:07pm 3 Comments

I saw this yesterday, and I thought it might be of interest to the Dieselpunk community. It's an unabashedly retro-styled, old-fashioned, somewhat subversive film about the Tuskegee Airmen and their service during WWII. It paints these men as true heroes in a way that you do not see very often in…
