This post could just as rightly fall into the "show your duds" category, but I'll drop it here. Cross-pollination, as it were.I bought myself a jacket that I've desired for 20 years now, the…Continue

I have been much less active on this site for the last few months, and I thought I'd explain why. See, after the wonderful Maker Faire in May, which my wife and I did dress up in dieselpunk attire…Continue

This is the Raygun rifle I've been working on in between other projects for quite some time. I first made the frame of it out of copper piping and plumbing fittings. Not happy with it, I added some…Continue

Another Bicycle Project

This post could just as rightly fall into the "show your duds" category, but I'll drop it here. Cross-pollination, as it were.I bought myself a jacket that I've desired for 20 years now, the Rocketeer's jacket. Oh, it's beautiful. I did ask the company, Wested Leather, if they would be willing to alter it in one way for me. I had decided that if I could get it in black, then I would be more apt to wear it. I was…See More

My Non-Dieselpunk Bicycle Projects

I have been much less active on this site for the last few months, and I thought I'd explain why. See, after the wonderful Maker Faire in May, which my wife and I did dress up in dieselpunk attire for (see pic below), I was, well, re-focused. I saw many cool and amazing mods, inventions, and DIY activities. People who were really…See More

My Raygun Rifle

This is the Raygun rifle I've been working on in between other projects for quite some time. I first made the frame of it out of copper piping and plumbing fittings. Not happy with it, I added some brass tubing, including the barrel. I then skinned the body and stock with sheet brass. There's a hidden little button on the body that, when depressed, makes some firing type noises, and the inside of the barrel glows red.The LEDs in the barrel and the electronic guts came from a toy race car from…See More

Bay Area Maker Faire 2011

The Maker Faire is an annual convention dedicated to DIY inventors and artists of all types. You'll see robots, crazy bicycles, and all kinds of cool science. The wife and I will be going this year with the kids, and one of the big attractions for me is that the Maker Faire has a huge steampunk area, filled with all kinds of steampunk vehicles and inventions. I'll be wearing the latest version of my dieselpunk outfit, and I'm…See More

End of Tour

I just wanted to post on here to those friends and fellow Dieselpunkers I've met on this site that my Afghanistan tour is finally close to it's end. I'll be leaving the country in a few days, and while I'll have a couple of processing stops that'll take a few weeks, I'll be home in a short while. I'll have been gone for a full year.I haven't seen my kids in that year. There's a lot I've missed. Still, having the mind that I do, I often compare my tours (one to Afghanistan, and one to Iraq), and…See More

Romantically Apocalyptic

Today, a friend pointed out this web-comic, called Romantically Apocalyptic. It's amazing looking, and while I haven't figured out yet if there is a bigger plot, the images are beautiful, and very dieselpunk in nature, particularly the outfits of the main character(s). Check it out. I think I'll keep reading.See More

Noir, by K.W. Jeter

Noir, by K.W. Jeter, is something that I definitely would call dieselpunk, though it's the reverse of the normal method. Most dieselpunk (or steampunk) is in the era, i.e., 1940's, but an alternate history that features technologies only dreamed of at the time. For dieselpunk, that often means rocket-packs, ray-guns, or enormous zeppelins. this novel works the other way. It's a story that takes place well into the future about a man named…See More

The Deven Science Bobber

Thumbnail
I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of my bobber here, to those that might appreciate it. It started out life as a '74 Honda CB200. I bought it as an untitled, unregistered junk pile for $300. The gas tank was painted as is, and someone had welded the frame rigid, then gave up on it, and I saw the potential to finish it, and it wouldn't cost much. I made the handlebars, forward controls with linkage, and the suicide shift by hand. Everything else has at least been modified by me. It took…See More

This just inspires me to make my raygun out of steel, a material that I have the skills to work with. The raygun rifle I've been working on for months out of copper and brass is kicking my butt! It looks okay so far, but it could look…

My Latest Bicycle Creation, by Deven Science

Posted on November 4, 2009 at 12:59am 2 Comments

Today was another productive day. I went over to my friend Kevin's shop to work on these bicycle parts I wanted to make. Knowing I was now to be back to work soon, and therefore short on time, I put the idea of making a springer front end on hold for now. I decided to make a simpler one that would still be unique. I cut the forks it had, extended them, and welded them back together at an angle so that the wheel would poke out further forward. I then welded a small brace on either side, to make… Continue

My Dieselpunk Outfit, So Far, by Deven Science

Posted on October 26, 2009 at 10:00pm 5 Comments

This weekend was fairly relaxing, as my girlfriend Kris and I had little on the agenda, but to work on our Halloween/dieselpunk costumes. That is, Kris worked on her Halloween costume, since we're still designing her dieselpunk outfit, and we worked on my dieselpunk clothes, since I'm just using last year's Cobra Commander costume. IThe hood was too tight last year, giving me a massive headache by the end of the night, so Kris has agreed to alter the hood before the day of.

We ended… Continue
