the supper club

after having a very disappointing dinner at a place in Pittsburgh that billed it self as a "rat pack" era type supper club, Cefalo's,(looked nice but awful food and the servers may as well have been in TGIFridays...sigh)  I was wondering if there are still such things in existence that actually are like something from "All through the Night",  "Casablanca", etc.  Anyone have any personal experience or even rumors of any?  I've found a little googling: …See More

glamour daze

I suspect others have found this site but I very much like it: http://glamourdaze.blogspot.com/search/label/1940%27s%20fashion It covers most dieselpunk periods.  I just grabbed the 1940's posts.  I had been unaware of what stockings were needed for back in WWII but this had it.  Powder bags for navy guns. :) See More

some diesel/steam clothing patterns

Some diesel/steam patterns. FYI, I have not yet tried them, but was making a “wish” list and thought I’d throw it up here. http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/hikaru http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/larissa http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/laura …See More

Captain America

Well, I'm not that fond of the PC changes (more Nazis, less Hydra in this era)  and the tweaks to the story line, but I do want to see this movie.  I've been a Cap fan for quite a while (my first favorites are Sgt. Fury and company in this venue).  The costume is about as good as I can see it getting.  I like the idea of chain mail but that stuff isn't usually so nicely skin-tight ;)  I hope they make the shield the vibranium/adamantium alloy it's supposed to be.  So, will dieselpunk get…See More

rewatched Cast a Deadly Spell this weekend

I didn't see the HBO movie Cast a Deadly Spell up here (though I did see a mention of it and some of the more choice quotes from it in a fantasy dieselpunk thread here).  Even though I only have a crappy VHS of it, the movie is great IMO. The detail on the magic and clothing etc was great.  The snappy comebacks are up there with some of the best from classic films.  One of the things I most love is the nightclub that was evidently in an interdimensional space with only the entrance…See More

some books on fashion of the dieselpunk era

just some books I've run across: compilations from the Sears catalogs of the period.  Divided into early, mid and late years of the decades (this one happens to be on the 40s)http://www.amazon.com/Fashionable-Clothing-Sears-Catalogs-Collectors/dp/0764317555/ref=pd_sim_b_3 1940s look:…See More

how popular is the con scene within the dieselpunk community?

I'm curious on how popular is the con scene within the dieselpunk community.  My husband and I have gone to about 3 Dragon Cons now and a handful of Gen Cons before that.  He wants to go back to DragonCon next year though the sheer insanity of the con, football game, NASCAR race, etc, that all seem to happen simultaneously now makes me not want to go.  I've done steampunk at DC.  Awful hot for a full victorian get up in Atlanta over Labor Day.   See More
