OK, I've been meaning to write this for a long time. Especially after going to some fantasy/anime conventions and seeing steampunk guys in full gear. I knew some of them from before and being a bit…Continue

Alternate history idea: Hollywood without the Hayes Code

So I went back to watching some old Golden Age movies (specifically an Abbott and Costello movie) and I remember thinking about some worldbuilding I was doing a while ago about an alternate Hollywood without the Hayes Code being in existence and just how Hollywood movies of the 1930s to the early 60s would have looked like if that code never gained any traction. Now as we all know, the Hayes Code was done on purpose as a self-regulating thing in order to prevent the government from stepping in…See More

Designing dieselpunk firearms

OK, I've been meaning to write this for a long time. Especially after going to some fantasy/anime conventions and seeing steampunk guys in full gear. I knew some of them from before and being a bit of a gun crank (the old term for gun nut, only less derogatory), and one of the things that I commented on were their obviously fake guns that they had. One guy had a steampunk rocket launcher that he described as 'throwing out a rocket and igniting the fuel with a pilot light'. I went on to describe…See More

Designing dieselpunk flight outfits

OK, so after finishing my novella (published in Authors and storytellers, BTW), I decided to get back to my original dieselpunk military novel, and one thing that I wanted to do is do a bit of world building with the outfits and uniforms that people in my military would be wearing. The first thing I'd like to ask is a few favors. I've searched for the type of flight gear/outfits that pilots had in the tropics, but I mostly came up with the winter variants. Also I'm wondering if gunners and…See More

New story: Cold Coffee with a Touch of Cocaine

Hello everyone,So I mentioned years ago that I was writing a dieselpunk novel about an aircrew assigned to kill an enemy general (and things go wrong, they succeed, but with major stumbling blocks), and I've had numerous issues getting myself to write it, despite having around 31,000 words already written. One of the the things that I did was create fairly extensive biographies for many of the characters, and I just wanted to do something to get myself in a writing mood again. So I wrote a…See More

X-Company TV show

Hey guys,I've been seeing posters around here in Montreal and some ads on the internet for X-company, a Canadian-Hungarian spy thriller that's based around a spy training facility during WW2. I don't have TV at home, but I'm thinking that it will be possible to watch the show online in a bit. I don't know much about it, but it seems interesting and it appears to follow the five-man band concept (TV tropes has been ruling my life for a while! HA!), but not much beyond that. The pilot aired two…See More

Fight like a World War 2 commando

Hey everyone,It's been a long time since I was around. Been distracted, been busy, and sadly despite my deadline getting near to publish my novel, I've only restarted work in earnest recently (I'm 24K words in, but the story is far from over), I might not be finished by the mid-May deadline, but I'll do my best.In any case, I found something on youtube that I thought you guys might be interested in.…See More

Photograpsh courtesy of Cracked.com

http://www.cracked.com/blog/15-old-photographs-that-prove-world-used-to-be-insane/Specifically I'm referring to number 2. Those were from the 1920's, and I'm not gonna lie, We need to bring those old mugshot styles back... or make them illegal since they look so badass they'll probably cause a soar in crime just so people can get photographed like that! But seriously, I really…See More

First chapter of my diesel punk novel is out

http://www.sffworld.com/community/story/4490p0.htmlAs I mentioned before, I've been reworking on an older setting of mine and making it more dieselpunk and science-fictiony. I originally thought of writing the entire thing and then publishing it, but I realise that it will take a very long time... I'm actually over 10K words in and I haven't even kicked off the main event. That being said, I decided to publish it…See More

Two youtube channels chock full of diesel goodness

Ever since I was a kid, I knew that before TV, radio was the big thing, and everything was on it, and before TV series, they had movie serials. I never had the chance to listen to those old broadcasts until relatively recently when I discovered a large amount of them online (and I'm sure most of you already know where to look, otherwise just ask). This left me with the problem of still not finding any complete movie serials, until now. I decided to share these discoveries with you guys here.…See More

Jet engines and nuclear power in Dieselpunk settings?

Hi all.A while ago I made a thread about Dieselpunk novels and to plug my own novel that I'm writing (which I would be writing more of if I hadn't been contracted to write a how-to book), and when thinking over the setting I've created. Just for a ref, I'll link my other discussion.http://www.dieselpunks.org/forum/topics/dieselpunk-novels-my-projectThat being said, the timeline of the war I've…See More

Dieselpunk novels + my project

Hello fellow dieselheads,Though I've always had ideas and a love for things that we would call dieselpunk, I didn't realize there was an entire community devoted to it, and when I learned about it a few years ago, I was instantly sucked into it.I love the whole idea, the concepts, the clothing, the machinery, the adventurous themes and whatnot. And while I've seen a lot of dieselpunk art (and yet not enough), I haven't really heard or seen much dieselpunk novels out there. Does anyone have any…See More
