If you were a friend of Mugsy and knew that the 10th floor was "the bee's knees" on Friday night, you could have been one of the lucky few who attended the Steampunk World's Fair engine room speakeasy.
Hosted by Dieselpunks creator/editor Tome Wilson with original sets and decor designed by Linda Terranova, Sandy Roberts et al, the "speakeasy in the sky" was a huge success.
Entertainment was a hot jump mix of 1920s standards, 1930s big band, and modern dieselpunk/electroswing tunes set to clips from The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello, Clara Bow in Wings, James Cagney in The Roaring Twenties, Squirrel Nut Zipper's The Ghost of Stephen Foster, swing dancing from Hellzapoppin', and WWI zeppelin vs bi-plane fights from Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels.
We even had an intermission performance by circus sideshow entertainer Wyck! You never knew what was going to pop up next!
If you had a good time, let Erin Tierneigh at the SPWF know by emailing SteamFairProg@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do to keep the fun going.
Until next time, enjoy this commercial free streaming radio station from Dieselpunks built around the engine room speakeasy playlist.

Thank you for the compliment!
If SPWF goes into 2012, we'll open the speakeasy on Friday and Saturday so more people can get a chance to enjoy the fun. As is, we were one of the first events to sell out, so a lot of people had to be turned away at the door.
I think what made the speakeasy fun was the fact that it wasn't open to every person we could jam in the room, and it wasn't a gigantic blowout in one of the main halls. It was roomy enough to move around, but intimate enough to know the other people in the room.
cant wait for the photos!
I took a bunch of photos, but I haven't processed them yet.
They'll be up soon!
