Lord K's Garage #174: Cord. A New Kind of Motoring

By the end of 1920s, front-wheel drive configuration found its way into one of the most ambitious automotive designs ever.

1929 Cord L-29 Cabriolet

The Cord L-29 was revolutionary, using a front-wheel drive system rather than the popular rear-wheel drive configuration. Many believed that having the front wheels be responsible for turning, carrying the…

Free Dieselpunk Book - The Dieselpunk ePulp Showcase (volume 1)

Do you need more gritty, hard-boiled noir in your life?  Do you feel the urge to drag on your beaten coat, tip your fedora to just the right angle, and slum it in a smoky speakeasy?  Do the grimy streets of another age call to you from deep within your blood?  If so, then do I have the book for you.

Featuring works by our very own Grant Gardiner, John Picha, Bard Constantine, and Jack Philpott, the writers of Dieselpunks.org would…

Two Fisted Tuesdays with The Shadow - Dead Men Talk

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!

Thanks to Scott from Dieselpunk Industries, we're going all the way Down Under with this week's episode of Two-Fisted Tuesday.

A lot of The Shadow episodes are lost to the winds of time, and I mean a lot, like 450 episodes are missing. Thankfully, we still have a bunch of the…

Miskatonic Monday - Steampunk Cthulhu cards

Lights out, everybody.

On Miskatonic Mondays we celebrate the "weird" fiction of HP Lovecraft and the genre of otherworldly horror it spawned.

I’m starting to think we should call this segment “Pocket Change.” Every time I look at KickStarter, there’s another great artist, or team of artists, pitching a Lovecraft-inspired idea.

Some are excellent. Others, not so much.

Today I bring you a classy set of playing cards by Nat Iwata from Portland,…

Lord K's Garage #173: Immortal Invicta

Another British car make - maybe not so famous, it's not forgotten. Actually, it's alive.

1934 Invicta 4½-Litre S-Type

The Invicta Car Company was a British based automotive manufacturer that produced cars from 1925 through 1950. In the early 2000s, the name was revised and placed on a high-performance sports car. From 1925 to 1933, the company was based in…

Pilsner's Picks: Skirting The Law Since 2002!

I've been forced into a kind of strange position by the current U.S. copyright law, in that I could get into legal trouble if any eager-beaver attorney thinks that I might have violated it. This law can always be changed arbitrarily, as it's been changed that way so many times before, but never mind that. Most of these ancient 78-rpm records aren't worth legally pursuing over copyrights (even the heirs' children are probably long dead), but if I'm wrong about this, I'm screwed.…

Jackie Coogan - from Kid to Commando to "Creepy & Kookie"

The Diesel Era was filled with exciting, groundbreaking individuals whose contributions and adventures are well known and adored.  And then there are those forgotten heroes whose exploits remain largely forgotton.  And then there are folks like John L. "Jackie" Coogan, child actor, WW2 glider pilot, and TV icon, who remain known and loved, but only for a single brief moment in a long and amazing life.…
