Miskatonic Monday - Hats for cultists and other weirdos

Lights out, everybody.

On Miskatonic Mondays, we celebrate the "weird" fiction of HP Lovecraft and the genre of otherworldly horror it spawned.

HP Lovecraft Film Festival This week, I was thinking to myself, "If I was a dapper elder god, what would I wear to the winter solstice party at the Silver Twilight Lodge?"…

Dieselpunk fashion

A lot of people ask me about dieselpunk fashion.

What does it look like?  Where do I find it?  How can I dress like a dieselpunk?

I normally recommend checking out old movies from the diesel era.  Hollywood stars love dressing their best, and the trick to dieselpunk is as easy (and as hard) as mashing those classic looks with today's styles.  Even if you like wearing clothes…

Two Fisted Tuesdays - Photos of Austrailian criminals from the 1930s

Welcome to Two Fisted Tuesdays, Dieselpunks' weekly beat on the mean streets.

Philip Marlowe is taking a break this week. And while he's taking a breather, crime is running rampant.

I'm here to remind you of this special message.

In honor of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre (and I very well could be talking about the way that box of chocolates looks on February 15th), February is our month to celebrate Gangsters. And when I say Gangsters, I'm talking…

Miskatonic Monday - How to dress up your look with Tie-thulhu

Lights out, everybody.

On Miskatonic Mondays, we celebrate the "weird" fiction of HP Lovecraft and the genre of otherworldly horror that it spawned.

As anyone who lives around me can attest, I wear ties more than a normal man should.  While I can't get suited up for every occasion, wearing something classic really does spruce up a man's look and (more importantly) his outlook & attitude.

In my quest for fashion, I turned to the Necronomicon and found…

Mack Sennett Bathing Beauties (1917 - 1919)

Mack Sennett bathing beauties were pin-up girls for the doughboys of the First World War. Gloria Swanson, Marie Prevost, Phyllis Haver and Mary Thurman were Sennett bathing girls at this time.

Roscoe Arbuckle, now more familiarly known as “Fatty” Arbuckle, left Sennett to make his own comedies at Paramount. With Arbuckle in this setup were two clever acrobatic comedians, Buster Keaton and Al St. John. Before the year was out, Sennett… Continue

Tips for steampunk and dieselpunk fashion

Hi everyone,

A lot of people ask me where I get my inspiration for my dieselpunk outfits. Granted, I'm not dressed to the nines every second of the day, but a little effort and thought goes a long way when it comes to good style.

Here's my advice when it comes to dieselpunk fashion:

  • Check your reasoning before you open your wallet. The whole point of dieselpunk is looking back to look ahead. If you spend all your…

The monocle makes a comeback

The optician Vision Express has announced it is to re-introduce the single eye-glass following a sudden surge of interest among customers. “To our surprise we have had dozens of requests in the last few months so we thought we’d bring back the monocle on a trial basis,” says Bryan Magrath, the chief executive of Vision Express. “We’re as puzzled as anyone by the interest.”

“You put it in your strong eye in the same way you use your strong eye to look through a microscope or… Continue
