Here's a blast from the past that should have had a much larger impact; instead it's almost unknown. It was built on a 1937 REO chassis, a truck manufacturer in Lansing, Michigan. Plume is an Australian oil company, so I assume it was an Australian design. Can our Aussie friends tell us more about this wonderful device? This first image is fairly well known, the others were very difficult to turn up. What is the monument by the truck?

No they got the name from the Reo speed wagon
Comment by Stephen Statler on January 17, 2013 at 6:01pm Did this inspire the band REO Speedwagon? Thanks for posting this. It looks too small to be a gasoline tanker but about the right size for home heating fuel oil delivery.
It's a Pioneer monument.
And A Nice Tanker.
Good idea! I can see it complete with a cocktail lounge for cool cats and hip chicks!
Comment by Sanglier on January 17, 2013 at 1:15pm It's almost impossible NOT to visualize opening up the tank section to the cab's interior and turning the whole thing into a traveling "mad boy" dieselpunk lair. (cue: "bwaaaahahahahaha!)
There's an idea! Advertising cars. Some were totally off-the-wall!
Awesome, thanks, Pico!
Reminds me a bit of the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile!
Comment by Andy Smart on January 17, 2013 at 6:40am That is awesome :-)
