Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Buenas Noches, mis amigos, and welcome once again to the Cabaret!

Miami girls are out of control!!

Tonight we voyage to America's tropical shore, Miami Beach, where Art Deco meets latin flair meets laises faire.  Tropical frozen drinks and hot latin music are the order, for tonight we have the man and the band who introduced America to the unique sounds of Cuba, Don Azpiazu del Manicero.  Bringing the hot, soulful, bohemian sounds of the streets of Havana to the Norteamericanos, Don Azpiazu paved the way for generations of latin performers in the anglo-dominated north.  But don't take our words for it, check them out!

Aye yai yai!  Muy caliente!  And what goes better with spicy penuts and spicy senoritas than tropical rum?  And not just and cocktail, but Ernest Hemingway's personal favorite Daquiri recipie!

Hemingway's Daquiri:

 - 1.5 oz White Rum

 - 0.25 oz Maraschino Liqueur

 - 0.5 oz Grapefruit Juice

 - 0.75 oz Lime Juice

 - 0.75 oz Simple Syrup

Shake well over ice.  Strain into cocktail glass.

No doubt!

Desi didn't really get into the music scene until the Cuba craze of the 50's, though he was doing Broadway in '39. Folks like Don Azpiazu were a major influence on Desi, that is certain. For more Cuban goodness, see Cabaret #8! Part of the Cabaret's mission is to demonstrate how nearly every aspect of American music we love has its genesis in the Diesel Era, be that blues, jazz, swing, rock, folk, country, rockabilly, or show tunes.

PS all: South Beach in Miami is still a Deco-lover's paradise full of Diesel-vintage buildings. See this gallery.

Those were especially "well filled" bathing suits on the beach.   I was expecting to see Desi Arnaz in the band.
