Yes, sir, things in the desert are hot, hot, Hot, and not just from the omnipresent sun.  Monty and George are here to speak to you, Erwin & Pietro; I'm afraid your lease in North Africa is up and you're about to be evicted!  It seems your Vichy French allies were a little less than eager to die on your behalf, but rather happy all said to join up alongside Yanks with Tanks - and the Brits have their Compass pointed due west ready to meet up with us... 

Yes, sir, the Cabaret is on hand in North Africa!  We have the Axis boys right where we want 'em: in a vice between Matilda and Sherman.  Camps are pitched, ships are offloading, and the troops are ready for some post-landing R&R courtesy of Yours Truly and our very special guests, the fabulous Andrews Sisters!

And what better to go with that than a nice drink or three?  Some of the boys "liberated" a couple crates of gin and Dubonnet Rouge, and there's a convinient lemon orchard, so tonight's tipple will be the fabulous Dubonnet Cocktail, also known as the Zaza.  Is Zaza an Algerian word, by chance?

So you keep on fighting, boys, and we'll be here to remind you all what you're fighting for.  Today Tunis, tomorrow Rome and Berlin!

 Dubonnet or Zaza Cocktail:

• 1 1/2 oz Gin
• 3/4 oz Dubonnet Rouge (substitute Sweet Vermouth if you absolutely must)

 Stir over ice and strain into a cocktail glass.  Garnish with a twist of lemon or orange peel.
