Christmas, 1944. The Long War drags on amidst the snows of the Bulge and the fires of Luzon.
A brave attempt to storm the Low Countries has met with failure and a German counterattack, once again through the Ardennes, has reversed the hard fought gains of the last six months. In the Pacific the battle to liberate the Philippines drags to a bloody crawl through trackless jungles. These are indeed the times that try men's souls.
The war has struck home here in the Cabaret as well. The great Captain Glenn Miller has gone missing in action over the Channel, presumed dead. Gone are his sublime clarinet and smooth sound, another victim to this war without end.
In Glenn's honor, we play for you his signature Moonlight Serenade:
But fear not, people of the world. The war drags on, but it will soon be over. Hitler's own generals have tried to kill him and the Red Army advances towards the heart of Berlin. Our bombers reduce the Axis cities to slag and surely this will come to a fortunate end before summer.
Or to quote Vera Lynn, "We'll Meet Again."
So a toast to the courage and perserverence of the warriors and those patiently wating at home. Whispers of the Frost will thaw and an Obituary to the fallen heroes as we salute the sacrifices that will finally bring peace to the earth once again...
