Things are movin' up in Motor City! yes, Detroit, Michigan, Automobile Capital of America, the crown jewel of the Great Lakes, is on the grow and on the go!
This swanky city of neon and steel has been around for a while serving as a trade post, trans-shipment point, and industrial center for most of the New World's written history, even serving as an arsenal of democracy during the war. But today it's truly coming into its own with a booming economy, buildings racing to the sky, and a thriving downtown scene abask in the glow of neon light. This is an automotive city to be sure and if you don't have a car you're gettin' nowhere, Jack!
And choose your car wisely, because the make and model will dictate who you are and how people receive you. And don't be so daft as to drive a Ford into a Chevrolet neighborhood, I might add! More important yet, never drive down Woodward Avenue in a foreign-built car! Not that you would when Detroit makes the world's best, of course. Is anyone seriously going to drive one of those little German bugs? Or a Japanese car? Hilarious!
But more than cars, Detroit is also booming in the music scene with new and exciting takes on Soul and Rhythm & Blues spearheaded by friend of the show Berry Gordy and his Motown Records, which is amassing solid gold records like he was King Midas in a Music Store. The Motown Sound is a revolution in music sure to be felt in the music business for decades to come, if not longer.
Don't buy it? Listen to a sampling of what's coming out of Detroit:
Bands like The Four Tops:
Or The Supremes:
Or the incomparable Aretha Franklin:
That's defining soul, brothers and sisters!
yes, sir and ma'am, Detroit is the place to be today, and I look forward with anticipation as to what wonders will come out of this city in the coming decades! But until then, tonight's cocktail, the aptly named Golden Dream:
