Okay, folks, time put put your hands on your hips and Mess Around. We're doing the Black Bottom!
It's a dance from Way Back, old as the hills down south, but the great Mr. Perry Bradford from down Jacksonville, Florida, way brought it to the rest of the world.
It's the old Black Bottom dance!
Forget the Charleston, daddy. That's so last year! Every Hip's doin' the Black Bottom now.
'Cause it's a swayin, kickin', mooch and doodle kinda' thing. Shakes out your bones, keeps you healthy! Might fun to watch, too!
"So, Tony," you ask me, "How do I get my Black Bottom going?"
Well, to quote the man himself:
"Hop down front then Doodle back,
"Mooch to your left then Mooch to the right,
"Hands on your hips and do the Mess Around,
"Break a Leg until you're near the ground,
"Now that's the Old Black Bottom Dance!"
For you squares, "Doodle" means to slide, "Mooch" means to shuffle forward with both feet, hips going first, then feet, "Break a Leg" is a stylish hobble.
Get that one down and then shake it up a bit! Sway and kick, shake a tailfeather, make things happen!
So what are you waiting for? Jump on up and show the world your Black Bottom!
Don't worry, ain't no one judging. Just hop up and show us what you got!
Can't be beat!
Know what'd go great with a good Black Bottom? How about some smooth Black Velvet? A Black Velvet Cocktail, of course! You just need champaign and stout beer, of all things! Of course you can't find 'em here...no sir. Not in that room behind the bookcase in the back of that Soda Fountain on 28th, at least, no-sir-ree. Definately not there!
