Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Look at us here in 2010. While we don't have domed cities or flying cars, we are way awesomer than we were in terms of technology compared to 1910. Here in 2010, we have safe, fast cars. We've got these cool little devices in our pockets that can make phone calls, play movies, play music, send messages to others and surf the new-fangled internet. We've got highly advanced medical care and computer technology that creates worlds almost indistinguishable from reality.

We can buy robots that vacuum our floors and robots that soothe our babies. We can go from New York to London in a few hours and we have endless information and entertainment at our fingertips. Our future world at times may not seem like much, but compared to 1910, we're hot shit.

Here are some things that were brand new in 1910:

  • Bakelite plastic
  • Escalators
  • Teabags
  • Cellophane
  • Instant coffee
  • Disposable razor blades
  • Telephones
  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Washing machines
  • Automobiles

High tech inventions like zippers, stainless steel, brassieres, Band-Aids, pop-up toasters and sliced bread were, in 1910, still just fancy futuristic dreams.
