Granville Gee Bee R-2 racer taken from storage and converted for interceptor work in the days after Pearl Harbor.

It was deployed in the Aleutian Islands and the Panama Canal Zone with some success against the IJN "Claude" fighters.

The Claude was already obsolete by that time.   It was used manly in China and in Mongolia in the 30s.   Im supprized  that the Japaniese used any of these in the Aleutians at that late date.  They had A6M2 Zeros and A6M3 "Rufe's" (floatplane version of Zero made by Nakajima) at that time.

Yeh, I find sarcasm doesn't translate well into the written word, it's more a tone of voice/body language thing, always good for a bite though!

It is funny, but everyone has asked if this was real.

Suppose I need to work on my ironic.

Given the wing loading, and directrional instability, I doubt the plane could accommodate an over-sized sandwhich, let alone a useful warload.

It might be able to take on opponents provided they flew in a flat elliptical pattern, with red and white turn posts, to remind you not to fly into the ground!

But i could not resist putting one into wartime colors!

Fantastic, who knew?! Any idea what armament was added? I believe Jimmy Doolittle once said of the GeeBee; 'If you turn your back on her for an instant, she'll try and kill you' I can't imagine she'd have been a particularly stable weapons platform.

Did anyone model it in CFS II or Il2.

That Gee Bee is one wild looking little plane.
