Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Stationed at Oceana Naval Air Base in Virginia my Grandfather was part of CASU 25-21. CASU was the naval acronym for Carrier Aircraft Support Unit. CASU members were trained as ground support and maintenance for planes on aircraft carriers. Although he would stay stateside and never board an aircraft carrier he was part of the daily support and maintenance of Navy Aircraft.

65 years later posing in front of another Grumman Hellcat at the Airzoo aircraft museum in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.

Had he actually been topside on an aircraft carrier, he would have had one of the most dangerous wartime jobs in the world for his time.
