Dieselpunks

Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

Ask me to name the precursors of Dieselpunk and Hugh Ferriss will be one of the first names on my list.

There's already an article about this genius delineator, accompanied by a small album. Now Paul Malon's excellent Flickr photostream brings us more high-quality scans of Ferriss' graphic artwork.

To serve a pleasant reminder: the largest Ferriss online gallery (341 images from Avery collection) is here. Once copy-protected, it's now public and download-enabled.

Each one of these is absolutely beautiful. Not only the design, which is wonderful, but the drawings are real works of pure Diesel art. To me, this artwork is the meaning of "Diesel" in Dieselpunk.

To Stefan:

Another Ferriss-inspired movie is Equilibrium.

Oh yes they did.

Mind blowing. Directors of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" admitted they have been chiefly inspired by Ferris' work for the design of the city scapes in the movie.

Thank you, Lord K.

By now, we should all be living in an idealistic, near-perfect world that looks like this... what happened? That's only a rhetorical question, I can't answer it (disclaimer).
