- It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

It's a Wonderful Life
It's a Wonderful Life has been a staple of cinema since it was first shown in 1946. Starring a "pay it forward" Jimmy Stewart and a hot young Donna Reed, It's a Wonderful Life tells the story of a small man in a small town with big dreams and a bigger heart. Jimmy Stewart plays George Bailey, a man trapped in a poor town thanks to a lifelong series of bad fortune. He wants to get out. He wants to travel the world. But every time he has the opportunity to do so, lady luck spits in his eye. The thing is, George always gets kicked down for doing something selfless for another person in greater need.
As time goes by, George grows old and settles with a nice girl and his lackluster job. Every day, he watches from his drafty old house as his family and friends move on to fame or fortune without him.

After a final, terrible day at the office, George comes to the realization that he's worth more dead than alive thanks to his life insurance. With a foot on the bridge's edge, contemplating suicide, George dives in to save another man who had fallen in the river.

As it turns out, the man in the river was an angel and he goes on to show George what life in the small town would be like if George was never born. Needless to say, it's not a pretty sight.

It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas classic, and I highly recommend it. I had not seen it until this weekend, and it lives up to the hype. Great direction, great actors, a Charleston dance contest, and an uplifting story come together to form a classic tale of a man who is poor in wallet, but rich in spirit.

This is excellent. While I mentioned it in passing on my blog you did a really good job detailing it.
