Knights of the Air - Austria-Hungary's Royal and Imperial flying school (1911)

In 1911, the first graduating class of Austria-Hungary's Royal and Imperial flying school at Wiener Neustadt stands before a Taube monoplane designed by Austrian Igo Etrich. The plane was one of Austria-Hungary's fleet of five military aircraft.

To Pilsner Panther:
quite right you are, fellow. Besides, Taube was already obsolete in 1914. Anyway, it's gorgeous!

To Cap'n Tony:
here's the only surviving original Etrich Taube photographed at the Technical Miseum, Vienna.
Other preserved Taube airplanes are license-built by Rumpler and other manufacturers.

found a couple of images of a Rumpler Taube here:

Although they look hopeful of the future, it saddens me that most probably more than half of them died before the first half of WW1 had passed..

@Cap'n - I'll stay on the look out. Can't be giving up the good stuff so soon, can I?

Got any images of the Taube? Reminds me of a Fokker Eindekker from what I can see in the pic.

Ah, but gorgeous aircraft couldn't save the poor old Empire. "Hang on to those uniforms, boys, after the war we'll all be doormen and lavatory attendants!"

Taube is one of the most gorgeous flying machines ever built.
