Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture

I've already posted some pictures made in the Technical Museum (Vienna, Austria).

But the exposition is not restricted to the automotive items - there are much more and I hope they are worth a look. The museum, established in 1909 and opened in 1918 (not the best year for Austria), holds a fascinating collection of mechanic objets d'art - from modest home appliances to huge industrial machines. Let us see some of the exhibits.

Main hall

Under the glass ceiling

Back to the ground: vacuum cleaners

1920's coffee machine

Kitchen gas range

Historic laundry

Social housing

Etrich Taube - the only original Taube preserved

The famous Gnome et Rhône aviation engine

Airship models

2nd class railway car

Penny-farthing and other bicycles

Steinbrück (1848), one of the oldest Austrian locomotives

1883 1.20-type locomotive, Imperial and Royal Railways

1912 Vienna-built electric locomotive
Industrial Gothic
And machines, lots of them: steam, petrol, diesel, electric:

To Cap'n Tony:
even a tip of the Smithsonian iceberg will be appreciated.

Great stuff, thank you m'lord. Is it just me, or does that espresso maker look like a steampunk daalek? Probably just me...

I need to do something like this with the Smithsonian before I stop working in DC come Monday after next. The problem is there's just so much between the Air & Space and the basement of the American History museum.

Captain Beefheart would enjoy the vacuum cleaner exhibit.

The Franlkin Institute exhibit should be something like Israeli Science Museum in Haifa, mostly children-oriented (lots of fun there).
Vienna TM is very "grown-up" but most of the visitors are high school students. Great place, enormous collection.

Great photos, Lord K. Good angles and a ton of sharp detail.

It looks like a fun place to visit. There was a similar exhibit at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia not too long ago, but the majority of the floor space was designed for children. They did have a drawing automaton on display, which I'm still impressed by to this day.

The machine as a work of art. I love it.
